about

Matthew Atkins "The Subtle Silence" has a movie-like quality to it. Reappearing field-recordings, loops of unknown origins and electronic sounds create a rich and always moving tapestry of simple tones and subtle noises. Many of these different sounds become more complex over time while being layered upon each other. "The Subtle Silence" thus creates climactic episodes within each of its six pieces, but counters these high points almost always with elaborate passages of quiet and tranquility.

Originally released on the Midnight Circles label.
